A Dik Dik

Team Dik Diks: 6 Days and Counting

Team Dik Diks have been training since October 2008 for this years race 28 March 2009. We have taken another Training program from Aaron Ogden (which looks like it's on steriods compared to last years program).

Our Team The Dik Diks consist of Jared and I. The name Dik Dik originates from Africa. It's a small type of a deer that stands about a foot off of the ground. The name actually came up a few years back while mountain biking with a bunch of friends. I was given the nic name "The Gazelle" and Jared inherited "The Dik Dik" all of which are very fast runners and have lots of energy..(the deer)

After completing last years race, we found out what we were capable of accomplishing. (We were a match made in heaven)! We challenged ourselves to do it again this time on a 2 man team. We have worked hard throughout the season together riding in rain, snow, mud and have taken each days training as improvement.

The time we have spent training for this years race has been a huge sacrifice paid for by our families. (Thank you Becca and Annsley for your love and support). Training took up every weekend plus 1.5-2.0 hours during the work week, so our families have sat without us during dinners soccer games and other events.

Yesterday was our last hard days training before the race (now we face recovery and preparation for the race(carb load up week)). We took our bikes out one last time to make sure they are going to operate to our expectations and to do the fine tuning. Mean while we got to see what we were personally preparing ourselves for physically (bumps, bruises, cuts, and road rash). It never fails, either Jared is going over his handle bars or I am tipping over on my bike because I'm clipped into my pedals. I have a saying.. "if you haven't crashed, you aren't riding hard enough". After many adjustments being made to the bikes unfortunately there are still adjustments to be made. We have done all that we could possible do to prepare physically for this event, now lets hope and pray our bikes and equipment perform well.
